The Two Requirements

1. City Hall 25 — and everything else at 25

City Hall 25 is the maximum level and a hard gate. What people underestimate is that City Hall 25 is not a single upgrade — it is the last upgrade in a project that requires your whole city at 25:

Sixteen buildings need a Master's Blueprint to reach level 25. Blueprints drop from events and alliance content, or cost roughly 2,000 gems each in the shop — call it 32,000 gems if you buy every one of them.
The Castle at 25 is the classic bottleneck, because it consumes thousands of Books of Covenant — farmed mainly from barbarian fort rallies, which means this is an alliance-paced grind, not a solo one. A level 5 fort yields roughly 5–15 books per rally, so the arithmetic starts months before you need it.
Academy 25 is required for the research that follows.

2. The research chain

Before the T5 research itself unlocks you need the economic tree well advanced and the military prerequisites completed — the Combat Tactics, Defensive Formation and Herbal Medicine line taken to maximum is the usual sticking point.

Then comes the T5 research for your chosen type. It is expensive in resources and long in real time, and it sits at the end of that type's tier chain.

Critically: the research is per troop type. Unlocking T5 infantry does nothing for your T5 cavalry.

The Order to Do It In

Pick one troop type. The one your civilization, commanders and existing army already support. Do not split.
Push City Hall to 25 while running the earlier research in parallel. These two tracks do not compete for the same builder, so run both permanently.
Bank resources, blueprints and Books of Covenant during the climb. T5 research and then T5 training both need enormous stockpiles, and the building-to-25 project needs materials you can only accumulate slowly. Arriving at City Hall 25 with empty warehouses means you unlock the ability to train troops you cannot afford.
Complete the T5 research for your chosen type.
Train gradually, and only what your hospital can heal.

How Long Does It Take?

Honest answer: for a free-to-play account playing daily, T5 is typically a year-scale goal, and often lands during or after a second KvK season. Accounts that get there dramatically faster are either spending or have been stockpiling with a farm account network feeding them for months.

The "level 5 troops in 25 days" and "30 days" challenges you see online are content-creator projects with prepared accounts and heavy resource injection. They are not a template for a normal account.

How to Get There Faster

Do Not Do This

Do not mass-train T4 while T5 is close. Upgrade paths exist, but resources spent on troops you are about to replace are resources not spent on the research.
Do not chase T5 in two troop types at once. You will get neither.
Do not delay a season for it. T4 is enough for your first KvK 1 — arriving late with T5 is worse than arriving on time with T4.
Do not train a T5 army you cannot heal. Check hospital capacity first. Dead T5 troops are the most expensive mistake available to you.

What About T4?

T4 unlocks at City Hall 21, with Academy 21 and the research for that troop type — not City Hall 16, which is where T3 lands. T4 is the milestone that actually changes your day-to-day life and the point at which you stop being free food on the map. If you are below City Hall 21, T4 is your target and T5 is a distraction.
