Three numbers decide your output:

Gathering speed — from commander talents, skills, research, civilization bonus and alliance tech.
Load capacity — how much a march can carry back. A fast gatherer with a small load wastes trips.
Node level — higher-level resource nodes yield far more per trip. Alliance territory nodes are the best available.

Specialises in stone but carries a large bonus to every other resource and to march load, with healing utility on top. If you have her, she is your primary gatherer permanently.

Šárka — the universal specialist

Šárka gathers every resource type rather than specialising, which makes her the most flexible cheap gatherer in the game and the easiest one to assign — she is never the wrong commander for the node in front of you.

Gold is the one worth planning around. Gold nodes are scarcer and yield less than the others, and gold is what your Academy research eats — so a dedicated gold gatherer running permanently is worth more than it looks.

Do not send your field pair gathering. They gather no faster than a specialist and you lose the march queue for something useful.

The Talent Setup

For any gatherer, the priority is:

Fill the gathering tree first. Gathering speed and load capacity nodes, in that order.
Then whatever supports march speed — faster travel is more trips per day.
Ignore combat talents entirely. Gatherers should never be in a fight.

The Routine That Funds Everything

Send every march out before you log off. Every single time. Overnight gathering is free resources with zero risk in alliance territory.
Use alliance resource nodes. Higher yield, and safe inside territory. See the alliance guide.
Unlock more march queues. They come from City Hall levels 5, 11, 17 and 22 — not from VIP, whatever you may have read. Every extra queue is a permanent multiplier on your whole economy, which is one more reason City Hall goes first.
Gather what you are short of. Most accounts are food-starved early and stone-starved later. Check what your next City Hall upgrade needs.
Add a farm account once your main is established. A second account gathering for you doubles your income for the cost of ten minutes a day.

Staying Safe While Gathering

Gatherers are the softest target on the map and everybody knows it:

Gather inside alliance territory whenever possible.
Do not gather next to a hostile alliance's border during KvK or a flag war.
Watch for scouts. A scout on your node usually means a march is already on the way.
Recall early rather than losing the march. A partial load is better than a dead commander and a hospital full of troops.
