Placement matters more than people think. The fortress anchors your whole expansion, so put it somewhere with useful resource tiles and defensible geography rather than wherever the first officer happened to be standing.

Resource Centers

An alliance can construct a Food, Wood, Stone or Gold Resource Center. These provide high-capacity gathering points where many members can gather simultaneously and safely inside controlled territory.

Two things to get right:

The number of active Resource Centers is limited, so the choice is a real decision rather than a checkbox.
Match the resource to what the alliance actually needs right now. Most alliances are food- and wood-hungry early and stone-starved during the City Hall 21–25 grind, with gold permanently short because research and forging eat it. Ask before you build; do not default to food.

Building Territory That Survives a War

Advice for anyone running an alliance rather than just living in one:

Build in layers. A developed territory has several connected rings, so an attacker must break through outer flags before reaching your fortress and your members' cities. A single-thickness line of flags collapses the moment anyone pushes it.
Claim useful ground, not maximum ground. Flags cost more every ten built. Territory that contains high-level resource nodes and covers your members earns its price; a decorative tendril across the map does not.
Cover your members' cities. Territory that does not include the people in it provides no protection.
Anchor near objectives in a KvK season — passes and holy sites need territory adjacency to attack, so where your border sits determines what your alliance can even attempt.
